Ingredients
Method
- In a shaker, gently muddle the mint leaves with the maple syrup (and optionally a small piece of star anise) to release the flavor.
- Add the bourbon, fresh lemon juice, ice, and bitters (if using) to the shaker.
- Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds.
- Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.
- Garnish with a lemon wheel, mint sprig, or a whole star anise for aroma.
Notes
- If you’re using star anise in the shake, a small piece is plenty—too much can overpower the drink.
- Bitters are optional but help balance the sweetness and highlight the spices.
- A cinnamon stick as a stirrer is another simple way to add aroma without muddling extra spices.
- Adjust maple syrup to taste—0.5–0.75 oz is usually perfect depending on how sweet you like it.
